Teamwork

Coriolis Force Exhibit

On May 31, the  DPHS senior engineering teams had an Engineering Showcase, in which they showcased the projects that they worked on.

One of the impressive projects that was showcased was the “Coriolis Force Exhibit”, created by a group of seniors in the engineering program.

“Our team was presented with the coriolis force and made a project to demonstrate it in motion”, senior Paulina Avina said.

According to Paulina, the coriolis force acts on objects moving perpendicular to the rotating system, for example the clouds in the sky are not moving in a straight line, but in a curved line because the Earth is rotating.

For every big project like this one, there are always problems that occur.

“I think problems mostly occurred in the CAD (Computer Aided Design) stage, which is creating a 3D design for the project,” senior Paulina Avina said.

Teamates

Teamwork is an important part, especially in making the project and solving the problems that occurred. Different people on the team work on different parts of the project and all of the parts come together in the end.

Paulina’s team consists of 7 members. They are Riley Roggero, Riley Monroe, Isabella Nuño, Cairo Rios, Olivia Simolon, Max Kubel, and Paulina herself. One person worked on the structural beam, Paulina worked on the seat assembly, Riley worked on the targets and the back plate, Bella worked on the shooter, Olivia worked on creating the water canon, and Max worked on the overall structure.

“We were all friends before coming on to this project. We would each help each other out in different areas, offering emotional support, and we honestly just had a fun time creating the project,” senior Paulina Avina said.

Usually in a big team project like this, the teammates would sometimes encounter conflicts regarding different ideas, problems occurring, etc.. But for Paulina’s team, they barely encountered any conflicts as they worked pretty well together. The only problem for the team was that it was hard for communicating as they all have different periods of engineering.

“In the end, everything all worked out and I think our project turned out pretty great,” senior Paulina Avina said.
